In downtown Salt Lake City, Utah, on three city blocks, there are nearly 20 attractions related to the history and genealogy of Mormon pioneers. These include some of the biggest tourist attractions in the state: the Salt Lake Temple, the Tabernacle, the Conference Center, and the Family History Library.

Things to do and see on Temple Square

Start at the North Visitor Center (just a recommendation) and see the Christus statue. The statue is exquisite and a powerful way to start your experience. It is located at 50 W. Enjoy Mormon Tabernacle Choir rehearsals on Thursday nights or catch one of their events. The Music & Spoken Word is the longest-running continuous network broadcast in the world, airing on more than 2,000 television and radio stations and cable systems. It has been broadcast from locations across the country and around the world. So definitely check out a performance of “Mo Tab”.

Visit the Historic Tabernacle This unique Tabernacle was a marvel of its time and certainly worth seeing. There are guides who can teach you about the organ and acoustics of this famous building. It is located at 50 W. North Temple Salt Lake City, Utah 84150

The Church History Museum offers an educational experience for the whole family. The museum tells the story of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints through exhibits and educational programs. The museum collects and displays Latter-day Saint art and artifacts from around the world for families to enjoy. The museum is located at 45 North West Temple Street Salt Lake City, Utah 84150-3470.

Tour the Palacio de Congresos. It’s located across the street north of the Salt Lake Temple, completed in April 2000. Weather permitting, you can even take a walk on the landscaped roof.

All of the events we recommend are free, and there are guides throughout the temple square willing to help you get where you’d like to visit. Any time of the year is nice to visit, enjoy the beautiful bulbs in the spring to the amazing Christmas lights in the winter, so plan a visit at your convenience.
