Samsung Vs Sony – State-of-the-art LCD LED TV meeting

Technology

Although such technology comes at a very high price, LED LCD televisions continue to attract interest among television enthusiasts. Pioneer brands came up with their own models, but two brands seemed to be more competitive: the Samsung A950 LED LCD and the Sony XBR8 series.

Now a hot topic, let’s review how both LED LCD TVs are taking the home viewing entertainment market to a whole new level.

LED LCD TVs are your regular liquid crystal display TV with the addition of state-of-the-art LED backlight technology. and of course new technology means a pretty hefty introductory price. But Samsung wanted to serve the needs of a larger market, so the 81F series of LED LCD TVs was its first attempt at offering a mass-market model.

The competition between manufacturers grew even more when Samsung launched its A950 series, while Sony created the XBR9 series of LED LCD TVs and LG introduced its LG 47LG90. LG and Samsung models retail for around $3,000 for a 46-inch screen like the Samsung LN46A950, while the 44-inch versions are priced at around $4,000.

Sony decided not to join the price range of the two brands; their 46-inch KDL-46XBR8 retails for $5,000 while the 55-inch version is $2,000 more. This makes Sony’s models seem exceptionally expensive than other brands’ LCD LED HDTVs.

However, they differ not only in price but also in the LED backlight technology used. Although all three use hundreds of LEDs located behind the screen, Sony uses a tri-color LED configuration, while LG and Samsung use white LEDs in their displays.

Sony’s tri-color LED system is coined Sony Triluminous Technology, which works with one blue and two green LEDs. Sony explains that such technology will improve the color purity of images. This could perhaps be a reason for its higher price.

So which LED technology is better? Is it Samsung’s white light LED backlighting or Sony’s tri-color technology?

Since LED LCD TV technology is technically quite new, improvements will continue to be made for years to come. It’s not that this isn’t the right time to buy an LED LCD TV; but if you think things through and realize that your needs can be met in a less expensive model, you’ll see that it would be more rational to get a cheaper model.

But again, it will all depend on your requirements for a good LED LCD HDTV. If you feel more like Sony’s Triluminous technology, and if you have the budget for it, then go buy it. But if you’re considering saving your $2000-3000 cash, go for the Samsung and you’ll still get an outstanding LCD LED HDTV. After all, it’s Samsung; you can be sure that you will get the best.
