NFL Draft Team Pick – Buffalo Bills No. 9 Pick

#9 – Buffalo Bills – Jimmy Clausen – Notre Dame

The Bills are in dire need of a quarterback franchise. JP Losman failed, Trent Edwards failed, and Brian Bohm or Ryan Fitzpatrick are not the answer. This is probably a range for a QB, but the Bills can’t afford to pass it up. If they do, another team will take him somewhere in the top 20. The team needs a better offensive line, but Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch combined for 1,500 yards last year. The team will have to tackle the line out in the second round unless they prefer Colt McCoy over Jimmy Clausen. The team needs to find a way to stabilize its WR position if it wants to have a QB that can be successful. A one year solution from TO will not work. They need a player to complement Lee Evans with Josh Reed at the slots position. Clausen should absolutely be available at No. 9 now that the Washington Redskins have traded for Donovan McNabb. Hopefully Trent Edwards will be good enough to play this year so Clausen can develop for a year. It would be a disaster to play Jimmy Clausen this year and expect him to be ready. If the team falls out of playoff contention, they might give it a few snaps to prove it.

This team doesn’t have enough playmakers to make a playoff run in 2010. They need to build through the draft and are starting to have a better defense with 2009 rookie Jairus Byrd having 9 INTs and a nose for big plays. He quickly overtook Donte Whitner on the depth chart, who was picked eighth in the 2006 draft. If Aaron Schobel retires, the team will lose its 10-sack creator.

Expect the team to take a step back this year, and fans should hope Clausen can get the offense back quickly because he could be playing sooner rather than later.
