4 tips to overcome negativity and depression

There is no doubt that negativity is a drain. Most people will actively avoid negative people if possible and will reduce their contact with them to the absolute minimum. But it can also be a downward spiral. So what can you do if you suffer from an excess of negativity that may even be leading to depression?

1. Be grateful more often

Gratitude is a powerful weapon against negativity.

It’s more or less the opposite, and once you learn to be grateful more often, you’ll find that your negativity struggles to cope with your newfound gratitude.

At first, just say “thank you” more often. Ideally out loud, but at least in your head.

And if necessary, find things to be grateful for: the air you breathe, the clothes you wear, anything!

If possible, keep a gratitude journal and write down at least three things that happened during the day that you are grateful for. This will help put your mind in the right place to sleep.

2. Get more exercise

Exercise releases endorphins in your body.

These are a natural “feel good” mechanism that works faster, better and safer than any drug (prescription or over the counter) and are generated when you exercise.

Exercise doesn’t have to mean going to the gym or swimming pool or even jogging.

It can be as simple as leaving the car at home for short trips or parking a little further from the entrance of the store.

Or you could deliberately go out for a walk! That works fine as long as the weather isn’t too inclement.

3. Eat healthy

Comfort food is often anything but comfort food.

It may be something you eat that gives you a quick sugar rush, but the downside of eating foods that aren’t exactly healthy soon follows.

Reduce excess sugar.

Gradually reduce caffeine (it’s not a good idea to cut caffeine out of your diet all at once).

Choose slightly healthier options when you eat, even if it means reading labels. A good rule of thumb is not to eat things where you don’t understand several of the ingredients and wouldn’t add them if you were making the recipe at home. So if you don’t have high fructose corn syrup or its associated artificial aspartame in your kitchen, don’t buy products that contain them.

And be sure to drink plenty of fluids: water is best, but anything that isn’t drenched in sugar or caffeine is fine.

4. Hypnotize yourself

Negativity is not something you have chosen to do.

It is something that your subconscious mind has developed as a protection mechanism for you.

And, just as you can’t tell your nails to stop growing, it’s not easy to eliminate negativity or depression on a conscious level.

Hypnosis works by working with your subconscious mind to subtly change your behavior and reduce the negativity in your life.

It’s easy: all you have to do is listen to a hypnosis recording (easier and more flexible than visiting a hypnotist) and let it work its magic.
