A lot of people in this world have the “Burger King” mentality: do it your way and do it right now. Everyone wants a nice house, a strong relationship, a nice body, and money. They want to get it all out of college and they want to work 20 hours a week to get it. This instant gratification mentality will lead people down the path of failure. Understanding how the self-disciplined live their lives will make it easier to learn to be self-disciplined.

  • Self-disciplined people say no to the “have it your way” mentality and realize that instant gratification may create short-term happiness, but will lead to disappointment and failure in the long run.
  • They have learned that the things they want will not come automatically. They have an accurate perception of reality because good things require hard work. Their happiness may be delayed as they work toward this goal, but their realistic outlook on life ultimately increases their chances of long-term happiness.

They have a passion for what needs to be done and their enthusiasm motivates them to the end. Just as a soccer coach would not worldly ask his players to win the game, people disciplined by elves motivate themselves with passion and enthusiasm, and that energy sets them in motion.
  • Self-disciplined people stay motivated by knowing how to feel good even when they’re having a bad day. Everyone has days that make them want to go to bed and never get out, but disciplined people will motivate themselves by taking control of their thoughts and making themselves happy. They choose to work their brain in a positive way.
