Teach your baby geography
Babies are so much fun to teach because they are eager to learn new things. They love to mimic behavior they see and are easily excited. If parents take advantage of these qualities, they can teach their babies all kinds of things. With a good puzzle and a few minutes a day, babies can easily learn geography, whether it’s US or world geography.
When parents are looking for toys for their babies, they should keep in mind that it is just as much fun for a baby to build a puzzle of the United States as it is to build a puzzle of a kitten. In fact, it can be more fun for the baby to build the map puzzles, because they are more challenging. Babies love a challenge and love to show that they can learn anything.
Parents can also teach geography using a map. They sell placemats that are maps of different places. If you use a placemat, simply show your baby different places at each feeding. In no time, your child will know what is where. How much better to let your child practice their manual dexterity of pointing and matching while learning things that will have lasting value to them, rather than just putting together a pretty picture.
There is certainly benefit to playing with toys, but parents have the opportunity to expose their children to many more educational materials and still call it play. There are songs that also teach geography. Many even include a map of the areas being taught. It’s easy to teach your child some geography with upbeat music as she points out the areas.
Teaching your baby world geography will help him understand that the world is a much bigger place than he thinks. During high school, when your child needs these skills and learned them easily as a baby, he’ll be thinking of you.
If you go to You Tube and type Smarty Pants Dance, you will see a video of a girl, less than two years old, who knows her American geography. She is having a lot of fun playing this game with her dad. I hope no one tells you that it must be boring and difficult to do.
