Sexual Seduction and Christian Dress

Introduction
Seduction is making someone want to do something by making it very attractive and interesting to the person. Sexual seduction is persuading or enticing someone to want to have sex with another person by doing things that make sex attractive and desirable. There is a relationship between sexual seduction and dress that every Christian should know. It is an established fact that some things can engineer sexual desire, especially among non-believers. It was the sight of Bathsheba’s nakedness that led David to adultery.

Sexual lust is also induced and people who are promiscuous have been using nudity to lure the careless into unhealthy lustful desires. This is the same as using pornographic movies, magazines, or clothing to portray acts and images that sexually arouse people. A true Christian must desist from all these things. It is a terrible offense before God to wish to see the nakedness of other people except that of your spouse Gen 2:25). Only crazy people walk naked through the streets without any feeling of shame, because their understanding is darkened (1 Samuel 16:7)

When the purpose of a thing is unknown, abuse is inevitable. God was the first to dress man when man was not well dressed (Gn 3,21). The main purpose of the dress is to cover nudity. Some dresses that are only good for bedrooms are now worn on our streets. The design of such dresses does not fulfill the actual purpose of dressing. These same things were condemned by God through the prophet Isaiah. Commercial sex workers have been known to wear certain styles of dress to further their trade, but it is unfortunate that many have opted for such forms of dress in the name of modernization. This has led to sexual harassment of many young people. There is a strong relationship between what we see and what we think. Our clothing should not induce unrighteous thoughts in others who see us, especially unbelievers (Isaiah 3:16-24).

The thought and desire of adultery in itself is a sin and whoever is responsible for it is also not blameless before God. Jesus taught that woe to the man or woman who causes another person to sin! Why should we as Christians draw others into the sin we preach against because we want to be free to wear what we like? Many modern styles of dress are so sexually seductive that many Christians have unknowingly become partakers of other men’s sins by wearing them in public places. Topless, sleeveless, spags, body-hugging, and miniskirts are some examples of dresses that could be sexually provocative (1 Corinthians 8:8-9).

Finally, God cares what people say about you because you are his representative on earth. It is not correct to do things as you please without thinking about the consequences on others who look at you. Even Christ did not allow the wicked in his time to speak ill of him. He obeyed his laws even when it was not necessary (Matthew 17: 24-27).

We must not forget that the prince of this world, the accuser of the brothers, is looking to see offenses in us to use against us. We must set a godly limit on our freedom to dress and teach our children to do the same.

In conclusion, the Christian life is not about living to please yourself, but about living for Christ and for the glory of God. It is our duty to do everything possible to bring others to light. We should not indulge in things that make our Gospel questionable (1 Corinthians 8:12-13).
