Midnight Sun – The Other Draft of the Twilight Saga
People should be familiar with four books in the Twilight Saga: Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn. However, only a few people know that there is one more book that is actually planned to be a part of the Twilight saga: Midnight Sun. Unfortunately, small parts of the draft were posted illegally on the Internet, leading the author, Stephenie Meyer, to make the decision to discontinue the draft.
In addition to other titles in the Twilight Saga, Meyer used the midnight sun as one of the natural phenomena as the book’s title. This phenomenon typically occurs in latitudes north of and near the south of the Arctic Circle, as well as south and near north of the Antarctic Circle. It occurs during the summer months and as its name explains, this phenomenon allows you to see the sun in the middle of the local night. In a simpler sentence, the sun is visible for 24 hours continuously. Some countries or territories that could be experiencing this phenomenon are the countries crossed by the Arctic Circle, such as Canada, Alaska (USA), Greenland (Denmark), Sweden, Norway, Finland, Russia, and Iceland.
So let’s go back to the Midnight Sun created by Stephenie Meyer. Actually, this novel was expected to be a companion to the first book in the Twilight Saga, Twilight. This book was planned to have the same plot with Twilight from Edward Cullen’s perspective. Actually, it will surely be very interesting as it will be the opposite of Twilight which comes from the perspective of Bella Swan. Also, this book should be quite different because Midnight Sun will be the only book to be rewritten from Edward’s perspective.
Unfortunately, the public discovered that the draft consisting of twelve chapters was illegally uploaded to the Internet on August 28, 2008. For this reason, Meyer decided to stop writing this novel. She said that she couldn’t keep writing Midnight Sun because she felt so sad about what had happened. She somehow, she thought that she would continue working on a certain novel again when she was sure that people had forgotten about this book.
Surely, the illegal upload was a sorry case due to the halting of the Midnight Sun writing process. Hopefully Meyer, as the author, will continue working on this book again soon.
