Krishnamachari Srikanth, a passionate cricketer, in command of affairs

Sports

Krishnamachari Srikanth comes from an orthodox Brahmin family from South Madras. His father strongly opposed it and even beat him in his childhood for playing cricket by neglecting his studies.

K. Srikanth has many credentials for his appointment. He is passionate about cricket and is known for his candid comments, views and criticism of the players. He used to critically analyze cricket teams for their performance in a cricket match judging them on their merits. He is impartial, a beautiful commentator and a good columnist. He has his own website for him to stop at cricket. He was one of the ‘Kapils Devils’ when India won the cricket world cup in the year 1983. He was the top scorer with 38 runs, when India came out with a paltry score of 187. He is currently a brand ambassador for Chennai Super Kings . , Chennai’s twenty twenty cricket team. He led the Indian cricket team as captain of India in the Test series played between India and Pakistan in the late 1980s. It was under his captaincy that Sachin Tendulkar made his debut when he was 16 years. Therefore, Srikanth has always been an ardent admirer of Sachin Tendulkar. Srikanth, who had turned down an offer for the presidency in early 2000, has now accepted the offer.

K. Srikanth has been appointed as the Chairman of the Cricket Selection Committee in quite difficult environment and circumstances. The India-Australia home Test series is on the undercard and the Australian team has already arrived with the aim of retaining the Gavaskar-Border Trophy in the upcoming Test series. The Indian cricket board is rich in resources and indeed India has been hailed and elevated as the homeland of cricket. Now cricket has three formats in the game namely twenty twenty limited games, ODI and the traditional test matches. Srikanth, being an old stalwart in cricket, is familiar with all three formats of the game. He also has first hand knowledge of twenty twenty cricket by virtue of his association with the Chennai Super Kings cricket team as a great ambassador for him.

Considering the current setup of the Indian test rig, Srikanth’s task is quite onerous. An aging captain in Anil Kumble, the problem of dealing with four fabulous but aging players like Sachin, Dravid, VVSLaxman and Ganguly, choosing a suitable captain for all three game formats, choosing a suitable and balanced team for the next India. -Australia Home Test cricket series are the burning issues or issues that require your immediate attention. Srikanth has to pay more attention to the aging foursome. Not to be intimidated by his past achievements, Srikanth has to make a firm decision to select or omit them taking into account his current form, fitness, etc. Srikanth must not forget that Dilip Vengsarkars policy of picking up the youngsters and grooming them has paid huge dividends in both the twenty twenty and ODI formats of the game and maintaining the status quo in this regard may not be reckless. He must pay attention to give representation to all states, but he must ensure that no candidate is selected without real merit. Instead of imposing a heavy burden on MSDhoni, the mantle of Test captaincy can be given to some other player. Above all, he must ensure that maximum discipline is imposed among the players, especially during test matches, without giving rise to relaxation.

Considering all the above aspects, let us hope that K. Srikanth, as a former veteran of Test and ODI cricket, will do justice to his position, elevating the Indian cricket team to a higher plane.
