Jamaica is known for its inland Blue Mountain and narrow coastal plain that includes the island’s beautiful beaches. The spices used in each dish become a worldwide curiosity. And to satisfy that curiosity, they often visit Jamaica to experience the cuisine for themselves.

What could be the reasons why Jamaica has a very different flavor than other Caribbean islands? Looking back at the history of Jamaica, it has been said that the island was colonized by the Spanish government. Through this colonization they had brought sugar, cane, lemons, limes and coconuts. In addition to food products, they also imported pigs, cattle, and goats. During his era, many Africans became slave laborers and brought okra, peanuts, peas, beans, and ackee, which became a national fruit of Jamaica. Until the British Empire came and defeated the Spanish government. When the British ruled the island, they freed the African slaves and eventually the Africans gained their independence. At the same time, Indian and Chinese workers came looking for labor. Hence, the fusion of different cultures; the spices, flavors and techniques of the food were the main keys to having a very delicious and nutritious Jamaican cuisine.

Also, Jamaica is a well-known place when it comes to cakes, bread, fruit drinks, and most of all, Jamaican rum. Every recipe in Jamaica is heavy meals with stews and vegetables or rice. Freshly cooked meat, fish, fruit and vegetables. Famous recipes often served in Jamaica are barbecue, ackee and salt fish and rice and peas. What makes it more interesting to try is that Jamaican foods have unique spices added to each dish, making them delicious, flavorful and healthy. Jamaican cuisine is known to be one of the healthiest cuisines in the Caribbean because fresh vegetables, meats and natural spices are the main ingredients to prepare a meal. It is considered diverse and each traditional dish could be everyone’s favorite.
