In this lesson on learning Spanish vocabulary words and phrases, I’ll cover how to say “I miss you” in Spanish and how to say “Perdí” like “Perdí el tren”. About a month ago, I received an email from a reader asking me how to say “I miss you” in Spanish. I thought this would be an interesting topic to cover in a Spanish lesson because there are so many different ways to say “I miss you” in Spanish.

First of all, I will tell you how to say that you miss someone or you miss something in Spanish. When we long for a person or thing, in Latin America we use the verb “to miss”.

I miss you a lot.
I miss you a lot.

You miss your friends.
You miss your friends.

The strange groom has met the bride.
The groom misses his bride.

In Latin America we also use the verb “miss” to say that you miss someone.

I miss it a lot.
I miss you a lot.

However, in Spain, they use a different phrase:

I miss you.
I miss you.

Spanish uses the verb “perder” to talk about missing a bus, taxi, train, plane, etc.

They will miss the subway.
They are going to miss the train.

They have already lost it.
They have already lost it (the subway).

The important thing to remember is that when you talk about lamenting someone’s absence, you should use the verb “to miss” or “to miss him” if you speak Latin American Spanish. And when you speak European Spanish, you should use the verb or phrase “echar de menos” if you want to say that you long for or yearn for someone.
