Many people have taken the view that content is beneficial for achieving higher rankings in search results. While this is true, delving too far into this frame of mind can greatly backfire. Writing solely for SEO purposes can confuse your real audience and can actually hurt your chances of being found online.

Why have people turned to content to help them rank better for relevant searches that can help them get more traffic and business? Basically, Google has started valuing content much more recently and has taken steps to remove shortcuts, like link networks, that were once so important to achieving high rankings. However, the reason they have done this is to provide their users with better websites in search results. These users are human. Why is this mentioned? Website optimization has often been about impressing Google. Now the focus should be more on impressing your users.

Google cares a lot about providing its users with the best possible websites. This means that websites must answer their questions and provide them with the information they need and an enjoyable experience. Does content that drives keywords and isn’t well written do these things? The likely answer is no.

Keywords still have value and you need to tell Google what you do. So don’t think that keywords and their use are worthless. Just don’t make them the only reason you write content. As the push to improve the user experience continues, different metrics will be analyzed to assess which websites provide the best experience. Certain metrics, such as time on site and pages viewed, will become increasingly important. If users visit different areas of the website and spend a decent amount of time on it, that’s a good indication that they’ve found something of interest to them. Websites where people bounce right away prove the opposite. If someone leaves instantly, it’s probably not relevant or the website didn’t provide a quality experience. These are the things to pay attention to in the future.

Content will always be important, just make sure it provides the user with something useful.
