Five successful actors who define the box office
Many actors have made their mark in Hollywood and been labeled as movie stars, all thanks to some incredibly successful movies. However, only a small number of actors have that charisma that can guarantee box office success, even if they don’t appear as the main character in the film. Due to their profitability as actors, their careers have spanned decades, appearing in multiple blockbusters and blockbuster franchises and winning major film awards.
Tom Hanks
Two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks has appeared in more than 50 films, with at least half of these films surpassing the $100 million mark at the box office. Hanks won his first Academy Award for the film “Philadelphia,” but is best known for his portrayal of the endearing character Forrest Gump, where he won numerous awards, including a Golden Globe and an Academy Award. He became one of the most bankable actors in Hollywood in the movie “Sleepless in Seattle”. Hanks is one of the most versatile actors in the industry, often playing difficult and eccentric roles as the stranded castaway in the movie “Cast Away” and as an anti-hero in the critically acclaimed film “Road to Perdition.” Hanks and renowned director Steven Spielberg collaborated on several projects, including “Saving Private Ryan” and “Catch Me If You Can.” His most successful films include the film adaptations of Dan Brown’s novels “The Da Vinci Code” and “Angels & Demons.” He also voiced Woody himself in the very popular “Toy Story” movies. Hanks will appear in the biopic “Captain Philips” and the Walt Disney film “Saving Mr. Banks,” both scheduled for release in 2013.

Robin Williams, a one-time Academy Award winner, is a talented comedian and one of the most valuable actors of all time. He has starred in more than twenty unforgettable and critically acclaimed films, including “Patch Adams,” “Mrs. Doubtfire,” “Jumanji,” “Dead Poets’ Society,” “Man of the Year” and both “Night at the Movies.” Interestingly, he won his Academy Award for a supporting role in “Good Will Hunting,” where he played the role of a deep and thoughtful psychologist. Williams has also established himself as a talented and powerful voice actor, playing Unforgettable roles in several films, including the quirky Genie in “Aladdin” and the romantic Ramon in “Happy Feet.” Williams will make four big-screen returns in 2013 after a year-long hiatus.
Morgan Freeman
Morgan Freeman is one of the most respected veteran actors in Hollywood. He’s rarely the quintessential main character in most of the movies he’s starred in, but his calm, commanding presence alone makes a movie worth watching. He has starred in more than fifty productions, including such blockbuster movies as “Dark Knight Saga”, “Deep Impact”, “The Sum of all Fears” and “Bruce Almighty”. Freeman has received numerous Academy nominations for his roles, but it was his role in “Million Dollar Baby” that earned him the coveted Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Freeman is also a brilliant storyteller, and his voice has been used to narrate the Academy Award-winning documentary “March of the Penguins.” He is currently working on five different movies that will be released in 2013. The highest paid actor in Hollywood in 2012, Tom Cruise is considered one of the most powerful celebrities in the world. His blockbuster movies have transcended culture and broken language barriers. Some of his most successful early films include “Top Gun,” “Jerry Maguire,” “Interview with a Vampire,” “Rain Man,” and “A Few Good Men.” He later rose to international fame with his role as Ethan Hunt in the hit spy movie series “Mission: Impossible.” The epic drama film “The Last Samurai” was more financially successful in Japan than in the United States, earning Cruise the respect and admiration of Japanese fans. The next big project of his is the movie “Oblivion” which will be released in theaters in July 2013.
Samuel L. Jackson
After earning critical acclaim for his role in “Jungle Fever” in 1991, hardly a year goes by without seeing Samuel L. Jackson in a highly acclaimed or financially successful film. He quickly rose to fame in the movie “Pulp Fiction” and then earned his first Academy Award nomination for the legal thriller “A Time to Kill.” His first works in theaters configured him as a great film and dubbing actor. He is voiced by him in popular children’s movies, including “The Incredibles” and “Astro Boy.” Some of his most successful movies are “Star Wars Episode I, II and III”, “Deep Blue Sea”, “SWAT”, “Iron Man 2” and “The Avengers”. Jackson is currently filming the movies “Robocop” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”
