Fantasy Football Player Analyzer: Mike Thomas WR Jacksonville Jaguars

Sports

It’s getting late in the fantasy football regular season, but there are still widely available players who can help give you that extra push into the playoffs. One of those players could be Jacksonville Jaguars WR Mike Thomas, who has turned heads even before his 8-catch/149-yard/1-TD bonanza last Sunday. The fact is that Thomas has been a solid player all season and has become a valuable asset to fantasy football, especially in PPR leagues. Previously unknown prior to this season, many are wondering if Thomas can keep it up or if he’s just a flash in the pan. Let’s break it down below.

For starters, Mike Thomas was a fourth-round pick in the 2009 NFL draft and did pretty well his rookie season collecting 48 receptions for 453 yards with one touchdown. Thomas proved his worth to the coaching staff and was named the starter for 2010. Well, he started with a bang catching 6 passes in Week 1 for 89 yards and like I said, he’s been solid all season. Not especially fast, Thomas does the best job underneath him in a possession role for the Jaguars, while Mike Sims-Walker handles the deeper passes.

Sims-Walker is also the primary red zone TD threat and not Thomas, as evidenced by the fact that the latter has only scored twice this year out of 41 catches. Look out for more of the same as the rest of the fantasy football season unfolds, which isn’t a bad thing if you’re playing in a PPR league. Seemingly, the Jaguars have turned into a high-powered passing offense overnight, as QV David Garrard has thrown an insane 6 TDs for him in the last two games. Clearly something is clicking in the passing game and therefore the opportunities should continue for Thomas.

It seems that Garrard has liked to throw the ball at him, so this is further proof that Thomas will continue to provide value. Again, Thomas won’t light him up week after week in his fantasy football stats, but overall he’ll be a nice low-value weapon for owners as we gear up for the playoff campaign. Pick him up on PPR and drop him on heavy TD setups right now.
