In the eyewear market, there are many designers from all over the world. It is estimated that there are more than a thousand brands of glasses worldwide. But the most reputable ones belong mainly to American and European companies. Even if these companies have opened international branches in developing countries like China and India, the key brands remain stable. In recent decades, European companies have played an important role in the international eyewear market. There are some eyeglass giants based in European countries. Not all European mounts fall into the “boring and safe” category. There are still some glasses that tend to be stylish and high quality. In general, European eyeglass frames are usually elegant, well-constructed, and classy. Today, there are many customers who choose to wear European eyeglasses to make a style statement. With rough research, one may be surprised by the leading role of European eyewear companies in the international eyewear industry. In fact, European eyeglass frames are the absolute majority all over the world.

Headquartered in Milan, Italy, Luxottica Group is the world’s largest eyewear company. The company currently produces eyeglass frames under brands such as Ray Ban, Persol, Oakley, Chanel, Vogue, Luxottica, and Arnette, among others. In addition, Luxottica is also licensed to manufacture glasses under many other designer brands, including Versace, Tiffany, Brooks, and Versus, etc. Its Ray Ban brand stands out. Having helped the American company Bausch & Lomb gain much fame, Ray Ban was sold to Luxottica Group in 1999. This acquisition really means something important, magnifying the leading status of European eyewear manufacturers.

As Luxottica’s main competitor, Safilo Group is the second largest eyewear company in the world and also focuses on the production of European eyewear frames. Based in Padua, Italy, the Safilo company now manufactures sunglasses and eyeglass frames. Their range of businesses is quite similar to Luxottica. Notable brands held by Safilo include Safilo, Carrera, Oxydo, and Smith Optics. The company also produces eyewear under licensed brands such as Dior, Gucci, and Jimmy Choo, among others. In addition to these two big companies, there are still many other corporations in Europe that develop European eyeglass frames under different brand names. Cazal eyeglasses made in Germany were first introduced in the early 1980s and became a popular enjoyment for countless artists and athletes. European eyeglass frames are also available in some lesser known names such as Giorgio Armani, Grotesque, Lafont, Mykita, Okki, etc.
