Coccinelle Handbags Charity Efforts Hit by Haiti Earthquake
In the fashion designer scene, Coccinelle is known for supporting charitable causes. Many of you may have heard of the recent Coccinelle Handbag Kids Helping Kids project, where children personalized white canvas bags with common children’s designs and colorful patterns. Proceeds from the sale of these duffel bags were donated to London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital, which specializes in treating children with cancer, and to Magica Cleme, which supports children in the Hospital’s pediatric oncology and hematology ward. However, many of you may not be aware that the Coccinelle Ethical Goodie Bag was expressly designed for the charitable Francesca Rava Foundation – NPH Italia Onlus. Sales of earlier designs for this Coccinelle bag were a huge success, with proceeds donated to help build the House of Little Angels rehabilitation center located in Haiti. The most recent proceeds from the sale of the newly redesigned gift bag will go to the new Francisville – New Work City charity project, which will once again help young Haitians. Francisville will provide participants with training and new jobs so they can create a better future for themselves. This will be a self-sustaining project that seeks to provide a more prosperous future for children leaving the orphanage and schools organized by NPH, the international humanitarian organization. Francisville is being built in Port-au-Prince, which is the capital of Haiti.
Then, on January 12, 2010, a catastrophic earthquake shook Haiti and caused extensive damage that included damage to some projects of the Francesca Rava Foundation – NPH Italia Onlus. Saint Damien Children’s Hospital, opened in 2006, was badly damaged and required the evacuation of 150 sick children. The perimeter walls of Francisville – New Work City collapsed in the earthquake. However, all 600 children from the NPH orphanage and House of Little Angels rehabilitation center were saved.
Rescue and recovery efforts began immediately.
