Bajaj Pulsar 200 SS: a long-awaited launch

Bajaj is a familiar name for Indians. Even before Bajaj bikes became popular, the brand was associated with rugged scooters, which were all the rage in the past. As those heavy scooters gave way to lightweight, gearless versions, Bajaj ventured into the heretofore untried waters of motorcycle manufacturing. Soon, the Bajaj brand began to be associated with high-performance, low-cost, fuel-efficient two-wheelers, mostly bicycles.

However, the real turning point in the company’s history was when they introduced the Pulsar series of bikes. Until Pulsar came along, sports bikes in India were the privilege of a select few. With the introduction of the Pulsar, that changed and more and more people could afford to buy a sports bike of their own.

As the brand became popular, the company introduced different variants of the bike in different capacities like 135cc, 150cc, 180cc, 200cc and 220cc among others. All of these variants were enthusiastically received by buyers. Now, Bajaj is gearing up for the launch of another super motorcycle, the Bajaj Pulsar 200 SS.

The Pulsar 200 SS is a fully faired version of its predecessor, the Pulsar 200 NS. This new bike has been designed as a compact sport bike with features like clip-on handlebars, muscular tank, split seats, alloy wheels, standard telescopic suspension at the front and monoshock at the rear. Other features include dual projector headlamps, small side hanging exhaust, and an NS 200-inspired plastic splash guard, to name a few. Design cues for this bike are largely taken from the Pulsar 400 NS, which was showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo earlier this year.

The engine that powers the Bajaj Pulsar 200 SS will be the same as the one in the Pulsar 200 NS naked bike. Therefore, the new bike will also have the same 200cc engine, which is capable of producing a maximum power of 23 hp and a maximum torque of 18 Nm. However, in the Pulsar 200 SS this power mill is expected to be fine. -tuned to generate more power and support the additional weight of the fairing.

Once launched, the Pulsar 200 SS will be Bajaj’s first fully faired motorcycle.

Although it will be a good value for money bike, the Bajaj Pulsar 200 SS will have a premium price tag attached to it. As such, it will be priced at more than one lakh rupees. Once launched, the Pulasr 200 SS will compete with the Yamaha R15 V 2.0, Honda CBR150R, KTM RC200 and Hero Karizma ZMR, among others, for space in the Indian market.
