Baby Shower Cake or Cupcakes? It’s up to you

Cakes are a very important part of a baby shower. It is not only tradition, but it is a good gift to offer to your guests. There are many different ways to approach cake design, and this page will give you some ideas and get your wheels spinning in the endless ways you can. First, let’s start by saying that you don’t actually have to have a CAKE. No one says it actually has to be the traditional sheet cake with chocolate or vanilla frosting. Why not try the cupcakes? They seem to be in fashion lately.

There are many different things you can do with cupcakes. Decorating them individually can be a lot of fun (and really cute), or you can stack them up to look like a central tower.

One idea that I particularly like is making a cupcake cake. It’s easy to make – just put the cupcake pans into a shaped cake pan (that’s the key – the cake pan needs to be shaped otherwise they will look like a bunch of squashed cupcakes) and pour the batter directly on the coatings. The cupcakes will naturally bake and form the shape of the pan. The icing and decorations make this type of baby shower “cake” really stand out. Serving is a piece of cake (ha, no pun intended!) Because your guests just have to “separate” their portion.

Another cute idea for baby shower cakes is to fill the cake (or cupcake) with frosting, but depending on whether the expectant mother is having a girl or a boy, you can determine the color / flavor of the frosting. For example, if the baby is going to be a boy, fill the cake with blue and pink frosting if you are having a girl. It’s the little things that make the difference.

Quirky or simple – homemade or bought?

This can really work however you want. You can get really fancy with the cake or you can decide to keep it simple. Remember, it’s not a wedding, so it doesn’t have to be over the top (unless you want to, which is fine in that case). There is absolutely nothing wrong with getting the traditional sheet cake.

Whether you make the cake or a bakery makes it, the most important thing is to make sure there is enough cake for all the guests. There is no right or wrong way to do it. The main “dish” in the shower is meant to be the gifts that the expectant mother will receive. That is the main reason to take the shower in the first place!

One thing worth mentioning is that it is good to stick to one topic. Does your cake have to completely match the decorations? No, not quite. But if you have blue and yellow decorations, it’s a nice touch to have blue and yellow on the cake.
