It seems like all logic goes out the window when looking for a work from home opportunity. It’s just not logical to think that work-from-home opportunities are any different than any other type of self-employment. In most cases, work-from-home opportunities are a form of self-employment and, like in any other business, there is a certain amount of risk involved.
It largely depends on the funding, experience and dedication of the person who starts a business to achieve success or failure. There is no chicken that has laid the golden egg, someone is going to have to work a little for the gold to start flowing. A formula to follow is that the success of any business is directly proportional to the effort applied. That’s right, it’s the old adage of “reap what you sew.” This is a law that is as effective yesterday and today as it is tomorrow. You must apply sweat equity to grow a new business.
One of the biggest mistakes most people make is when starting a business venture that they believe guarantees they will make money. This is simply not so. There are no valid trading or investment opportunities that guarantee that you will make money, but there are many that guarantee that you will lose money.
There are many business opportunities that use the word warranty in their sales brochures because the word “warranty” attracts attention and reduces “purchase anxiety.” Prospects are more likely to become customers if they feel that their purchase is guaranteed.
People don’t realize that the lower the risk, the lower the return, although risk is not the only factor in a successful business venture. Higher risk coupled with high application and strategic planning increases success. Therefore, risk, application and planning could be used as a formula for success.
Risk can be greatly reduced by analyzing the company before getting involved. Who are the people behind the opportunity? What is your track record? How successful are your clients? Is there a need for your product or service in your community? Do they have a proven business plan? How much money do you get for your money? How well do you support your business partners? These and many more questions need to be explored before getting involved in any business opportunity.
Earning income is a matter of preference. Some people are comfortable working for someone else. They like the idea of getting a paycheck on a regular basis. The mother’s idea of attacking on her own terrifies them. There are other people who would not want it otherwise, they love the challenge, the adventure and the prestige of having their own business.
The days of starting a business “all at once” are over, for the most part. Now you can get a turnkey, franchise, license, or business opportunity with a complete business plan, logos, proven advertising copy, and even uniforms. The sky is the limit and the pocket the fuel to buy any type of business that one can imagine.
Starting a business is, for the most part, expensive, risky, and time consuming. For a person who is not well financed, it is better to start part time and work full time. Unless you really know what you are doing or are willing to learn, don’t even think about leaving on your own. It’s like being on a cruise ship in the middle of the ocean and deciding to take your family and set off in a lifeboat aimlessly. One day away from the comfort of the ship and you are asking to return. Fear, anxiety, uncertainty grab you to the core. You fear for your family, your ability to shelter and clothe them. What if the sharks come? Where will you find water? I wish I were back on the ship’s ship, warm, well-fed, and safe.
Starting a business, however you look at it, is starting it on your own. Your family depends on your good judgment and willingness to work long hours. You better have all your ducks lined up before you jump.
