A look at the advanced technology found in the Samsung Galaxy Note

Technology

The Samsung Galaxy Note is arguably the most innovative device from the prolific Korean manufacturer in recent months. It represents something like a hybrid between a smartphone and a tablet. In this article, I will explore some of the features that make it a unique device.

The screen of this device is probably the most impressive feature that it offers. At about 5.3 inches, you can see why it falls somewhere between the conventions of a smartphone and a tablet. The size may be inconvenient for some, as it may not fit in some pockets, but it provides a wealth of features usually reserved for tablets like the Apple iPad or Samsung Galaxy Tab. The device comes with a stylus, which means users can quickly take notes in their own handwriting, and the built-in handwriting recognition will convert it to digital text. The display boasts one of the highest resolutions of any mobile device, surpassing even the much-hyped “retina” display found on the iPhone 4S. The resolution of the Samsung Galaxy Note is 800x 1280, which means that high-definition videos and games can be enjoyed on the device, which is equally at home showing photos or surfing the Internet. The screen uses Super AMOLED technology, which means that, like all other Galaxy smartphones, the brightness, color saturation, viewing angles, and clarity are second to none.

While the display is a very impressive attribute of this device, there is of course much more to like. It’s perfectly equipped to surf the web, with data download speeds of up to 21 Mbps available (the highest of any mobile device currently available) and of course WiFi connectivity included as standard. Plenty of internal storage is provided, with 16 and 32GB versions available, both of which come with a micro SD card slot (with a 2GB memory card pre-installed), which can hold up to a 32GB memory card. An 8-megapixel camera is available to capture high-quality images as well as video footage, which can be recorded in up to 1080p (Full HD).

As for software, the Samsung Galaxy Note uses the latest version of Android (v2.3, also known as Gingerbread), although it has been confirmed that it will support the new version of Ice Cream Sandwich when it is implemented in compatible devices. This allows users to browse and download applications from the Android Market, greatly increasing the functionality and versatility of the device. The TouchWiz user interface (Samsung’s custom Android interface) runs on top of the Android platform, which means users have plenty of options to customize their device. This also includes Samsung Hub, which allows you to download more apps and widgets, along with various media items like e-books, movies, and games. The phone is based on a 1.4 GHz dual-core processor, which provides all the computing power to run high-tech hardware and demanding software.

All of the above features combine to make the Samsung Galaxy Note arguably the most attractive and certainly the most advanced (in most aspects of its spec list) mobile device currently available. The jury is out on whether it should be classed as a tablet or a smartphone, but either way it really impresses.
