Self-observation, that is, observing oneself, is a useful tool for self-help and self-improvement. Why? Well, obviously, the reason is that we don’t actually act as we sometimes imagine ourselves to act. Yes, including research and science as well as experience, there is a lot of evidence that says there is a difference between how we actually act and how we think we act.

Now an obvious form of self-observation is to have a videotape or digital recording of yourself. Later, you can make an assessment of yourself based on the tape or digital recording. You can see for yourself how much what you appear to be doing differs considerably from what you imagine you are doing.

Now, our inner life, our inner journey is also subject to the same lack of imagination. To practice self-observation in relation to your inner life, have a notebook or journal for that (your spiritual notebook or journal, of course). Each week or day, choose a certain theme and, in relation to the theme, make a record of all your observations (for the day or week). Of course, you can choose to write in your notebook or journal soon after you make the observation, or you can choose to take “mental notes” and jot them down later in your spiritual notebook or journal.

Since it is a practice of self-observation, you observe yourself, and the best way to do this is by observing yourself as someone else. Now, a wonderful example of a theme is critical awareness. This is a very good way to observe and then get to know each other thoroughly. To explore this topic further, use them as a guide:

• Assess how you judge certain experiences as pleasant or not (good and bad)
• Assess how your perception of your experiences would be altered if you changed or suspended your judgments.
• Identify what other ways of looking at these experiences might be more helpful in seeing your life more clearly, or in seeing other aspects of your life that you have been missing simply because you have been blind to these aspects (or stuck in your comfort zone). . area, and did not want to set in the unknown)

Self-observation is a rather “core” understanding of your own self. This is a great start to true and deep self-knowledge. So be objective and know yourself inwardly through your soul.
