The Indianapolis Colts are rewriting history every season.

Sports

The Indianapolis Colts shook up the NFL establishment when they became the first professional football team to have cheerleading and a marching band. Even though the Colts had a strong fan base, the public immediately scrambled to get all the available Indianapolis Colts tickets when the team’s cheerleading announcement was made public.

Baltimore Colts: At the Beginning

In 1946, the Miami Seahawks were an All America Football Conference team headed for bankruptcy. This group was purchased by an investment group of Baltimore businessmen led by Bob Rodenberg. Once the franchise moved to the city of Baltimore, the team was renamed the Colts and their uniform colors were green and silver.

The merger of the AAFC and the NFL in 1950 brought the Baltimore Colts into the National Football League. In 1950, the team posted its second straight 1-11 record and in 1951, the team’s franchise was legally dissolved. This could have been the end of the story, but Baltimore refused to let their team go and fans even rooted for the band that played Colts games. In 1952, the NFL Commissioner challenged the city of Baltimore to try to sell 15,000 Baltimore Colts tickets in 6 weeks if they wanted to be reinstated into the professional ranks.

a challenge is accepted

Fans jumped at this opportunity and all 15,000 Baltimore Colts season tickets sold out in just over four weeks. The following year, the NFL moved the Dallas Texans franchise out of the Lone Star State and gave it the east coast city of Baltimore. The city chose to keep its Baltimore team name intact, but adopted the colors of the NFL’s Texans, which were blue and white.

The Orioles/Colts debacle

The football team had one more move in its future and this was one that is still bitter and disappointing for many fans. In the 1980s, a controversy arose between the Baltimore Orioles and the Baltimore Colts over which stadium was used by both teams. The problems became so severe that the Colts’ owner began investigating other ballparks in different locations. Indiana was able to reach an agreement with the owner, and the team moved to the Hoosier State. 1984 was the year the new “Indianapolis Colts” first played.

Manning’s Magic

Peyton Manning became the team’s quarterback in 1998, and the Indianapolis team has been a force to be reckoned with ever since. In 2008, the team went 12-4 and earned recognition for having won 7 or more games in a row in the last 5 years. The team once again reached the Playoffs as a wild card. Indianapolis Colts tickets became one of the biggest hits on the internet as desperate fans searched for any available seat that would allow them to see the action in person. The Colts couldn’t beat the San Diego Chargers, but no true fan wanted to miss the game.

The Indianapolis Colts have their eyes on a new record… an undefeated season.

The 2009 season is shaping up to be just as impressive and once again Manning will be the team’s starting quarterback. Demand for Indianapolis Colts tickets is already high as people try to get the best seats in the house. Fans know this team is strong enough to post an undefeated season and they want to be there to see and feel the excitement in person.
