Legal Law

Quail hunting is not a hobby that normally attracts much attention, although it has a popular following in many parts of America and Europe. Also known as a part of highland hunting, quail hunting involves the use of shotguns to bring down the bird.

Quail are usually medium-sized birds in the same family as pheasants, and are prized by hunters. In a typical situation, dogs are used, either to lure birds out of their heavy hiding place or to retrieve birds that have been hit by buckshot. Therefore, quail hunting will involve open space, alongside heavy cover. It is the open area where the hunters will wait for the quail to try to escape.

There are a number of states that actually get a big financial boost from quail hunting, states like South Dakota, as well as many rural areas of the UK. However, all this usually goes unnoticed and without advertising.

The sport made headlines in 2006 when US Vice President Dick Cheney shot a Texas lawyer while the two were hunting quail. In February 2006, Cheney and Harry Whittington were on a ranch in Texas to participate in a hunt. A hunting period has already taken place in the highlands as the day progresses into night. The group of hunters were looking for a bird that had already been shot down. As the search was underway, another bird flew from the deck and Cheney fired. Whittington took a couple hundred buckshot from the shot.

There are many rules that must be followed during organized quail hunting, one of which is that it is always the shooter’s responsibility to ensure that it is safe to shoot. Other rules, such as not drinking alcohol while filming and wearing orange safety gear, are normally strictly followed as well. The most important rule though is to make sure he is safe before you shoot. In the Cheney incident this was obviously not followed.

Quail hunting may not be to everyone’s taste, but it is a popular hobby for many people. This popularity is especially widespread in America, although there are also strong hunting areas in the UK and other areas of Europe. Although in these last two areas the anti-hunting lobby has influenced the number of people who participate in hunting.
