POP and Exchange: associated advantages and disadvantages
You have been a regular user of email services since its inception for work and entertainment purposes. Whether you use web server based email like Gmail or Outlook.com or use company network emails, you must have found the POP and Exchange options. Actually, they refer to the different email options. Email is divided into three main categories:
1. POP
2. IMAP
3. Email exchange hosting
POP MUSIC
Post Office Protocol (POP) offers a way to interact with mail servers. Basically, it works by downloading the emails to read them offline. If you open your email server and download the emails, the emails will be removed from the mail server and only available on your laptop or PC. If you try to access them via POP on any other device, they won’t appear. There are some pros and cons associated with the POP system. Are:
The pros are:
o They help to download the emails to one location and thus keep a single copy easy to maintain.
o It is a very common and easy way to handle the email system.
The cons associated with it are
o The POP does not offer message synchronization
o The email, once downloaded to the PC, disappears completely from the email server.
o The POP system does not offer any contact or data synchronization.
Exchange server
This is the most complex type of email system found on the email options list. Technically it is called a messaging application programming interface. This was developed by Microsoft.
The Exchange Protocol has been created to help users synchronize their emails, contacts, and other functions between email clients and services. This type of Exchange server is widely used in business. The Exchange server is a computer server that stores your email address, contact number, address and files and gives them secure access at all times from any computer. The Exchange protocol allows you to:
1. Securely access email servers remotely. You can access the email server using any medium, such as the web or any mobile device (iPhone, blackberry, Google, and Android systems).
2. Helps manage and synchronize contact information.
3. Provides you with the security and backup of all your data.
Like all email options, the handshake also comes with a list of pros and cons.
The pros are:
o The exchange protocol enables the full synchronization function of e-mail messages.
o Messages are stored on the email server and on the PC.
o Most mobile phones support the Exchange protocol.
o Emails may not be sent or even be modified if they are sent within the domain of the server.
Despite many advantages, some of its disadvantages are:
o The exchange server is an expensive system to implement and use.
o When using the Exchange protocol, synchronization errors can often appear, which is a difficult and time-consuming task to troubleshoot.
o Not all desktop computers, laptops or mobile devices can fully support the handshake.
