Baltimore, a port city on the Chesapeake Bay, is the largest city in the state of Maryland. Its status as a major seaport means that the city is an active business center for many multinational companies and financial institutions. Therefore, it continues to attract many who come in search of better career opportunities. Therefore, Baltimore apartments are in high demand throughout the year.

If you are looking to rent an apartment in Baltimore, you should be aware of the general rental requirements. Most apartments will run a credit check, rental verification, and most likely a criminal background check. This can mean denial for applicants who have previous problems. Are there any apartments in Baltimore that don’t run credit, breached lease or background checks or, if they do, are willing to work with the applicant regardless? The answer is yes.

Apartments that are willing to work with applicants who have previous rental issues are called second chance apartments. This is not to say that they don’t comply with general housing policies, just that they are more lenient than regular apartments. Here are some places where one can find such housing units:

The challenge with finding places to rent in Baltimore if you have a tarnished credit or record, such as a broken lease, is that such complexes are not easily advertised. This means that it can be a trial and error for the applicant who has to call or visit numerous apartments before being approved. This can be a frustrating and expensive experience.

It’s also important to note that even if you get a second chance apartment interview, you still need to meet a few key requirements. For example, even if the apartment is willing to overlook, say, credit issues, they will most likely want you to provide proof of income. This means a job for at least the last six (6) months and an income of at least three times the amount of rent. The apartments will also insist that you do not have any drug, violent or child abuse related crimes.
