Clueless in the Kitchen: A Teen Cookbook by Evelyn Raab and George A Walker

Do you know a teenager who does not know how to cook, but who should or wants to learn? A little clueless in the kitchen and over 20 years old? If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then I have a book for you.

Clueless in the Kitchen is a book I’ve known since I was a teenager and past my teens, but I still use this book for reference and for some tried and true recipes. This is a good starter book for beginning cooks who don’t know how to do simple things like boiling water because it gives them the basics, easy recipes, and even includes menu ideas for the recipes you’ve taught them to make. . What is especially useful is that the book is divided into sections such as breakfast, pastries, desserts, soups, etc. This is especially good for someone who wants to impress by planning a complete meal from start to finish, including an appetizer, a main course, and a dessert. At the beginning of the book, after the chapter guides, you’ll find a kitchen guide that explains how to do things like defrost the freezer, clean the stove, how to properly use the dishwasher, and other common things you may not be able to do. you know how to do it because you have never done it yourself personally. There is also a metric conversion table in the back of the book to help those of us who have some difficulty converting teaspoons and cups to millimeters and liters. Right before the conversion table, there is also a terminology guide to explain some of the terms that might not make sense and that you have never heard of before.

I have tried many different recipes in this book and continue to do so, but over the years I have grown to love a few specific recipes and use them over and over again. I’m not that good at savory dishes, but I still haven’t had a problem making Vision X-ray soup or potato soup. Both items are easy to make and absolutely delicious, especially the X-ray vision soup because it is lighter (not creamy) and packed with carrots that are said to aid eye health. The Cinnamon Swirl Coffee Cake is another one of my favorites because it is quick and easy and it is not heavy or dense like most coffee cakes.

Overall, I’d say it’s a great book for everyone, regardless of age and skill level, because there is something for everyone in this book.
