Are belly button rings losing popularity?
The question that comes up many times in the world of fashion is whether something is simply a trend, or is it going to become a classic. This same question is being asked by those interested in a navel piercing and wearing one of the many navels that are all the rage right now. If you check blogs and social networks like Facebook and Twitter, you can find a lot of discussion about whether the belly ring is here to stay or not.
To answer this question, it’s probably best to take a step back and look at the roots of body piercing in general to see if it has stood the test of time. You can read about accounts in the Old Testament indicating that some women pierced their noses. You can look at pictures coming out of ancient ruins to see that there were nose and ear piercings. Although some may still believe that navel earrings are nothing more than a temptation of the flesh; Young women of all ages and from many cultural backgrounds are embracing navel jewelry. The perceptions of some will never be altered. However, many women choose their navel rings as a sign of their femininity and confidence, not as a sign of their sexual habits.
Many fashions are designed that complement the use of navel rings. And, of course, the bikini is here to stay, so summer is an ideal time to show off your body jewelry and your tan.
So are belly button rings losing some strength? Look in any fashion magazine or look at what celebrities are doing and it looks like this trend will continue. With so much body jewelry to choose from, women will no doubt continue to express themselves and their style by wearing body jewelry.
